Looking for something fun and slightly silly, we hired Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire last night, but quickly realised that it followed closely on from Godzilla vs Kong, so we watched them both.
I would describe these films as good adjascent, but that doesn’t quite do them justice. I feel like with Godzilla especially, the creature itself is so hard to relate to in any sense that the filmmaker has to work a little bit harder to make the movie watchable.
And these films do that. The casting is often fun, and the crash and bash sequences are interspersed with other storylines. They are still silly, of course, by not in a way that takes away from the enjoyment on offer.
So, if you want some fairly mindless fun, these might well make a little monster movie marathon for you.
